2008 News Clips:
By Charles Redfield (Associate Sports
Editor, SUN Publications) May 28, 2008
“Everyone contributed to the championship,” Saints coach Chris Orel said.
“Sophomore pitcher Kellie White pitched all three games and senior catcher
Meagan Mathiasmeier called great games.” White only allowed one run on
nine hits spread over the three games. She fanned 19 and walked only three.
The Saints defense only committed one error in the course of three games.

A three-run lead with one inning to play was more than enough for sophomore
Kellie White, who tossed the two-hit shutout and allowed just a single run
in 21 innings of work over the course of the weekend. “I settled everyone
down and we focused on getting out of there,” White said.

correspondent ) May 25, 2008
Aquinas starter Kellie White was dominant all tournament, but she took it to
a new level in the title game. She had a no-hitter through five
innings. She struck out 10 and didn't allow any runners past first base.
"Kellie had a great week of preparation," Aquinas coach Christine Orel said.
"There wasn't anybody else we would have gone to for this game."

Sophomore Kellie White proved herself every bit as good as Sarah Wedel, the
Salina South senior who is generally regarded as the top Class 5A pitcher in
Kansas. As a result, St. Thomas Aquinas is advancing to today’s
semifinal round after a 2-1 victory over the No. 3 seeded Cougars at Two
Rivers Park. White retired the first 10 hitters she faced. She ended
up surrendering just three hits, while striking out five. “Here’s what’s so
sweet about that,” said Christine Orel, the Aquinas coach. “We came down
here expecting to face the best pitcher in 5A. The way Kellie pitched
tonight, I beg to differ.” |
